A YOUNG person was feared to be missing in a fire in Silsden this afternoon. 

Emergency services were scrambled to the scene at around 3.45pm.

One resident told the Telegraph & Argus that it appeared to be a "serious farm fire".

"There are a lot of fire engines and many police vehicles attending with fire engines refilling with water on Skipton Road," they said.

Martyn Hughes, from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "We're currently assisting @WYFRS at a building fire near Silsden where it was feared a young person was missing amongst the flames.

"Fortunately after what seemed an eternity they were found safe and well."

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "We were called at 3.54pm and are on the scene assisting the fire service."

The Yorkshire Ambulance Service were called at 4.06pm and sent an ambulance, a clinical supervisor and the Hazardous Area Response Team. 

A spokesperson said they were not aware of anyone being injured at the moment, but paramedics were staying on the scene as a precaution.

In the latest update, a West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Ten fire engines have been in attendance at an agricultural barn fire in Heights Lane, Silsden, after a call was received into the Fire Service Control Room shortly before 4pm today.

"This was a metal structure measuring approximately 40 metres by 40 metres, 50 per cent involved in fire.

"All persons are accounted for and no people have been injured."

They said firefighters are damping down and attendance at the fire would be reduced.
