It was number one for two weeks from January 31, 1968.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

Kiki Dee & Elton John – Don’t Go Breaking My Heart (1976)

Tasmin Archer – Sleeping Satellite (1992)

The Bradford-born singer achieved the ultimate accolade with her debut single, Sleeping Satellite.

Kimberley Walsh/Girls Aloud - Four number ones

Bradford-born Walsh had a string of chart successes as one fifth of the girl band, including their first number one at Christmas 2002.

Girls had three further UK number ones with I’ll Stand By You in November 2004 for two weeks; Walk This Way – Sugababes v Girls Aloud in March 2007 for one week and The Promise for one week in November 2009.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

Gareth Gates - Four number ones

Someone else from Bradford who achieved chart stardom after appearing on a TV talent contest was Pop Idol winner Gates.

Gates' cover of Unchained Melody was top of the pops for four weeks in Match 2002. He followed this up with three more chart toppers.

Anyone of Us (Stupid Mistake) was number one for three weeks in July that year and his Top 40 dominance continued when he and Pop Idol runner-up Will Young secure top spot with a cover of The Beatles' Long and Winding Road in September 2002.

Gates' final number one came in March 2003 with a cover of the Doctor and the Medics hit Spirit in the Sky. This stayed at number one for two weeks.
