THE huge efforts of Bradfordians to support those most in need during the coronavirus effort shows no sign of waning.

The Bradford Hindu Council has raised a total of £3,470 for the Bradford Metropolitan Foodbank in Little Germany.

The initial plan was to carry out a collection on April 8 at four temples in Bradford, but the plans had to be changed to ensure people were not making non-essential travel plans and to reduce the risk of infection.

Instead, former shopkeeper Rameshbhai Patel got on the phone and made a number of calls which has resulted in the foodbank getting bulk essential items - at cost price - delivered directly.

  • Thakorbhai Patel of TB Cash and Carry on Legrams Lane donated two full pallets of drinks to the value of around £1,500
  • Around 15 shopkeepers came together and organised a collection of various items including tinned vegetables, cereal boxes, toilet rolls, rice and fresh fruit, which was dropped at the foodbank last Friday. In value this would have been more than £1,000
  • Food donations have been made at the collection points at Morrisons in Girlington and Tesco in Great Horton.
  • Individuals from the Hindu community have made collections in their local neighbourhood and then sent carloads to the foodbank.

Graham Walker, from the foodbank, said: “We are hugely grateful to the Bradford Hindu Council and all the Hindu community for this massive donation and the various other donations of food received."
