TO celebrate the incredible key workers doing amazing work during the Coronavirus crisis and provide some Easter weekend entertainment, Tracy Brabin MP held an Easter drawing competition for the children of Batley and Spen.

Open to children aged 14 and under, the competition tasked the areas young artists with creating a piece celebrating the incredible doctors, nurses, care workers, NHS staff, police officers, firefighters, teachers, supermarket workers, delivery drivers, cleaners, pharmacists and more who are doing incredible work during this pandemic.

Entries to the competition were high quality, making it extremely difficult to pick a winner. Tracy Brabin selected a piece by six-year-old Batley resident Thea Gales as the winner, which celebrated the midwives who are supporting her pregnant mother throughout the crisis.

Highly commended were pieces by Muhammad Hamzah Sidat, six, and Saimah Salloo, 12, both from Batley, who both paid tribute and thanks to key workers and the NHS in their artworks.

All three will receive arts-themed prizes from Tracy Brabin as reward for their hard work.

Tracy Brabin, MP for Batley and Spen and Shadow Minister for the Cultural Industries, said: “I received some amazing artworks which made it so tough to pick a winner in my Easter drawing competition.

“The pieces our area’s young people created really demonstrate how grateful we all are for the incredible work being done by our key workers, whether that be on the frontline of our NHS, to the supermarket workers ensuring shelves stay stocked and the delivery drivers making sure vulnerable people get food delivered to their door, and the police officers keeping us all safe.

“I want to thank everyone who entered the competition, and I hope the winners enjoy their prizes.”
