DETECTIVES investigating the death of Matthew Kitcher in Rastrick are appealing for help to build a picture of his movements.

Officers from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team are appealing to persons who knew and had contact with Matthew in the week before his death to contact them, as investigations continue.

Matthew, 33, was found with serious head injuries in Thornes Park, Brighouse in the early hours of Monday April 6, after emergency services were called to the scene at 1.36am.

He was taken to hospital but later died from his injuries.

Two men aged 44 and 32 and a 36 year old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the enquiry and released on police bail.

While officers do know his immediate movements in the hours before he was found, they are now seeking to build a picture of his whereabouts from Sunday, March 29, as they work to better understand how he sustained what proved to be fatal injuries.

Detective Chief Inspector Tony Nicholson of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team Protective Services (HMET) who is leading the investigation, said: “Our investigation into Matthew’s death remains ongoing and as part of those enquiries, we are seeking help from the public regarding his movements in the days before his death.

“We are keen to speak with any associates of Matthew or anyone who knew his regular patterns and movements to help us try and recreate his activities in the week prior to April 6.  This information may prove to be very important in helping us establish just how he came to sustain the head injuries which sadly took his life.

“This information could be as simple as letting us know if Matthew was a regular visitor to a local shop or if he had regularly seen friends or associates in those final few days.”

He added: “We also continue to appeal to anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in or around Thornes Park late on Sunday night or early on Monday morning then please get in contact.”

Anyone with any information or who was in the area at the time is asked to contact the Homicide and Major Enquiry police on 101 or use the live chat facility at www.westyorkshire.police.uk/contactus quoting log 128 of April 6.

Information can always be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
