A SHIPLEY aerospace company has switched to making parts for much-needed ventilators for the NHS - a vital part of the country’s fight against coronavirus.

Produmax has brought in split shifts so its team can work around the clock to produce the parts at speed from their site off Otley Road.

The new ventilators have been designed, tested and approved in record time by the Ventilator Challenge UK Consortium, and the government has issued formal orders in excess of 10,000 ventilator units so far.

Produmax will have fully switched to making ventilator parts on their lathes over the next few weeks, and more than 60,000 brass, steel and plastic components will make their way onto the air flow control units of Penlon and Smiths Medical ventilators.

Mandy Ridyard, Produmax financial director said “We’re proud to be part of this vital fight against Covid 19. We’d like to thank our fantastic team of engineering superheroes for taking up this challenge to help save lives.”

The Ventilator Challenge UK Consortium involves a number of large companies.
