NORTH Yorkshire Police is warning local residents not to accept help from unknown individuals knocking on doors and offering support with shopping for food and essentials.

Officers in Selby have had reports of two individuals taking bank cards and cash from housebound or self-isolating residents on the premise of purchasing supplies but then making off with the cards or money, North Yorkshire Police said.

The individuals are described as between the ages of 25 and 30-years-old and of a "scruffy appearance," the force added.

If you have been offered any shopping services and/or have been the victim of any losses call North Yorkshire Police on 101.

If you live in Selby and can help identify the individuals who have been knocking on residents’ doors then call 101 and ask for your local neighbourhood officers PC494 McLoughlin or PC629 Dunne at Selby Police Station.

A number of volunteering organisations and initiatives have been set up to assist anyone in need of support who does not have family and friends to help them and your local council can help you find these:

• North Yorkshire County Council: Telephone: 01609 780780 between 8am and 5:30pm every day.

• City of York Council: Email: covid19help@york.gov.uk or telephone: 01904 551550.
