A WOMAN was today jailed for eight months for spitting at a police officer while claiming to be infected with coronavirus.

Lianne Mottershead, 30, of Huddersfield, kicked the officer in the groin while heavily intoxicated in the early hours of yesterday.

She was taken to Trafalgar House Police Station in Bradford where she spat at another officer and told the custody sergeant she had coronavirus, going on say she hoped they would ‘die of corona.’

Mottershead was jailed at Leeds Magistrates’ Court for two offences of assault by beating a police officer acting as an emergency worker.

After the case, Gerry Wareham, Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS Yorkshire and Humberside, said: “This behaviour is as disgusting as it is dangerous. In the current climate, it is beyond belief that someone should deliberately spit at another person, let alone a police officer performing their duties in the current challenging circumstances.”
