WREXHAM council has reminded businesses affected by coronavirus that help is available to them.

For many people who run a business, the impact of the virus has been unexpected and brutal.

But the UK Government, Welsh Government and local councils are working together to provide as much support as they can.

A Wrexham Council spokesman said: "One way we’re trying to help is by paying out grants to businesses that pay business rates.

"So far we’ve paid out £845,000 to cafes, shops, hairdressers and other types of businesses in Wrexham, with a further £525,000 due to be paid out by this Friday (April 3).

"This financial assistance is vital in helping to safeguard our local economy and jobs, and we’re continuing to process grants on a daily basis.

"If you run a business – please make sure you’re aware of the different help that’s available.

"It could make a huge difference in helping your business survive this emergency."

Those who pay business rates are being reminded that Wrexham Council can provide grants of £10,000 to firms that receive Small Business Rates Relief.

A spokesman continued: "The funding was recently made available by Welsh Government, and the grants are aimed at businesses based in premises with a rateable value of up to £12,000.

"There’s also a £25,000 grant available for businesses in the retail, leisure and hospitality sector, based in premises with a rateable value between £12,001 and £51,000.

"Both grants are only available to firms on the business rates register as of March 20, 2020.

"To apply, read the guidance on our website and – if you think your business is eligible – complete the online form.
