AIREDALE Hospital NHS Trust has confirmed the death of a coronavirus patient announced on Saturday was the second such death at the hospital.

Last weekend figures were published that a patient had died, but Airedale bosses would not confirm the claim.

NHS England has now stated there have, in fact, been two deaths at Airedale General Hospital, the first last weekend and the second on Thursday, March 26.

The second patient died at Airedale General Hospital on Thursday, March 26, and is the first COVID-19-related fatality in the Bradford local authority area.

The latest statistics from NHS England state there have been a further 260 deaths across the UK, 246 of these in England, bringing the total number to 1,019 across the UK and 935 in England.

CORONAVIRUS LATEST: 

Of the latest numbers, seven people were from Yorkshire. The data states three death were people from Leeds, two from Barnsley, one patient with the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust and one patient under the care of Airedale NHS Foundation Trust.

All had died after testing positive for COVID-19.

A statement from NHS England read: "Patients were aged between 33 and 100 years old and all but 13 patients (aged between 63 and 99 years old) had underlying health conditions.

"Their families have been informed."

There are now 37 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Bradford district.
