A Saltaire arts charity is encouraging people to be creative in a bid to brighten spirits amid the nationwide lockdown.

Saltaire Inspired has posted 'window art' from people in the community, as part of its Saltaire Living Advent Calendar project, on social media, to "spread positivity".

Co-ordinator Kate Thompson said, "The community always does the window art for Christmas, but local resident Kristina Diprose asked if we could set something up to spread joy during the lockdown.

"It creates a sense of togetherness at this time when people are struggling. Some live alone and need that support from their neighbours. The community has really pulled together, in this artistic way, but, even more importantly, in a practical way - delivering food and helping neighbours.

A lot of the artwork pays tribute to the NHS: "There are a lot of health workers in Saltaire and the NHS is the heart of our community", Kate says.

"We're showing a positive use of social media and helping children and adults to be creative."
