SCHOOLS across Bradford have been battling through the coronavirus outbreak and UK lockdown in a variety of creative ways.

The Government's decision to shutdown schools at the end of last week, to all but children of "Key Workers" and vulnerable pupils has meant teachers and staff have had to think on their feet, during these unprecedented times.

Many parents, carers and guardians have also had to delve into the world of education for the first time, in the form of home-schooling.

One school that has tried to break this spell of fear and uncertainty, is St Luke's Church of England Primary, in Eccleshill.

It remains open to around 15 children of "Key Worker" parents.

Those at the school turned their attention to presenting positivity in the form of art, on Tuesday.

This included creating a huge banner to hang outside the school, as well as small pieces of designed card tied to the school fence, which display rainbows and messages of hope.

The main banner read, "behind every cloud is a..." which was followed by a rainbow created using the painted handprints of the pupils.

Some of the messages on the smaller pieces of art included: "keep calm", "stay safe" and "have fun at home".

St Luke's headteacher, Mrs Zulu, explained the thinking behind the project.

She said: "With much sadness our school closed its gates to the majority of our pupils last Friday.

"Like many other schools across the UK we remain open to a small number of pupils whose parents are critical to the COVID-19 operation including front line NHS workers.

"As Head teacher I have been amazed at the commitment and determination of our staff to remain open during this time of National crisis.

"We have been overwhelmed by the support shown to us by our parents and school community.

"The staff and children in school wanted to spread some cheer and positivity during this time of darkness by displaying brightly coloured rainbows and messages of support outside the school for people to spot on their daily walks."

Meanwhile, secondary school BBG Academy, in Birkenshaw has set up a number of initiatives on social media website, Twitter, to keep homeschoolers engaged.

Some of the specific subjects have their own challenges for students to get involved with, but the school overall is using the "we've got this" and "Team BBG" to bind it all together.

People have already sent in clips and pictures of them exercising, baking and playing music.
