In 1982 soaring rents and rates and were driving shops out of Bradford. On Broadway – the city’s first pedestrian precinct four leading retailers had closed or moved.
On the corner of Cheapside and Broadway, electrical retailer Rumbelows, was looking for a more economical site in another part of the city centre due the high rent and rates bill which had trebled to around £40,000.
December 1987 the electrical retailers celebrated the opening of their new-look store in Market Street, with a series of special offers and free Christmas competitions.
