A LONDON-based developer has purchased the iconic Telegraph & Argus building in Bradford city centre.
As reported last week, the Telegraph & Argus will be moving from its Hall Ings building later this year.
Much of newspaper’s operations will move to Rooley Lane, with offices in the restored Grade II listed former West Bowling Golf Club building.
The T&A will also have a new, smaller city centre office, from which a number of reporting staff will remain.
Property consultancy Eddisons has now completed the sale of the huge T&A building, next to St George’s Hall and between Bradford Interchange station and The Broadway Shopping Centre.
The 80,000 sq ft building includes the original grand office building, and also incorporates the newspaper’s early 1980s-built glazed press hall.
It has been purchased by a London-based developer, which is currently assessing options for its redevelopment.
Eddisons’ agency director John Padgett and surveyor Matt Jennings, who are based in the firm’s Bradford offices, acted on the deal for T&A owners Newsquest. “It was a privilege to work on the sale of what must be one of Bradford’s most iconic buildings,” said Mr Jennings.
“The new owner is yet to reveal its plans for the Telegraph & Argus building but we know they are working on a number of new initiatives for the next chapter of the property’s existence.
“It’s a really positive move for Bradford and we are looking forward to seeing it take on a fresh new identity and be brought back to life as an asset to the community in what is the UK’s youngest city.”
