WEST YORKSHIRE Police are urging the public not to call 999 to ask for advice on the UK's coronavirus lockdown, after it received an "extremely high volume of calls" from people "asking for further guidance".
Following last night's announcement by Prime Minister Boris Johnson that the country would be on lockdown, amid the outbreak of COVID-19, police say people have been contacting the emergency services for advice on what to do.
In a tweet published today, at 6.37am, WYP Contact Management Centre reassured the public that GOV.UK will be sharing more information soon, and told them that they should only call 999 in the event of an emergency.
Following last night’s @10DowningStreet’s statement, we are experiencing an extremely high volume of calls from people asking for further guidance. More info will be shared by @GOVUK soon, so please don’t call 999 unless it’s an emergency.
