SKIPTON and Craven Rotary Club have been looking out for budding new writing talent by organising the local heat of the Young Writers Competition 2019/20.
Throughout the autumn term 2019, pupils in local schools aged between 7 and 10 years old wrote imaginative pieces of 500 words of prose or poetry for a national competition to find the Young Writer of the Year.
Embsay, Threshfield and Sutton Primary schools all produced winning entries in the local heats for the Skipton Craven area.
Each school providing many fine examples of writing with great imagination and creativity.
Winners from each school - Rita Box from Embsay, Darcy Guilherme from Threshfield and Lilly Robertson from Sutton CP - all went forward to the regional finals.
First place for Skipton and Craven Region was awarded to Lilly Robertson and her piece entitled “Connections” went on to win first place for the Yorkshire and Humberside District and has now gone forward to the national finals.
The club's Peter Ripley said that the judges had praised the winning entries for their attention to detail and the high level of imagination applied to their work.
