PLANS to turn part of a pub into a car sales showroom will go before a Council panel.

The application by T Khan will see part of the Hand and Shuttle on Tong Street converted into the new car business, while the rest of the building will remain a pub.

A similar plan was submitted and later withdrawn last year.

But a new application will go before members of Bradford Council’s Bradford Area Planning Panel at a meeting next Tuesday - if Council meetings continue to go ahead.

It is for the partial change of use of public house to car sales and forecourt with installation of full height showroom windows, internal roller shutter door and mesh link metal fencing.

The Council has received 27 objections to the plans from residents of neighbouring streets - raising concerns that the business will lead to dangerous traffic conditions and questions about parking.

Others question whether the business would reduce the value of their home.

But planning officers will advise members of the committee to approve the plans.

Highways officers said: "The proposed car sales business is at a relatively small scale and it is estimated it will generate an average of around six to eight two-way trips a day.

"This level of additional traffic in this locality would be unlikely to have a significant adverse impact on highway safety and the safety of pedestrians and other road users."

Planning officers said: "The proposed car sales business would allow new employment and would meet with Governments NPPF (National Planning Policy Framework) aims."

The Committee is due to meet in City Hall at 10am on Tuesday - however, this may change depending on the current situation with Coronavirus.
