WEST YORKSHIRE Police are appealing for information after an elderly man was stabbed in Leeds in the early hours this morning.

At 3.58am, a 72-year-old man went to the BP filling station, in Otley Road, Headingley, and told staff he had been attacked.

Ambulance staff attended and confirmed the man had a stab wound to his back.

He was then taken to hospital for treatment, although his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The victim reported being approached from behind in nearby Moor Road, by a male who stabbed him and then ran off.

A number of scenes were put in place in the area to undergo examination.

Detective Inspector Carl Morrison, of Leeds District CID, said: "We are carrying out extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this incident and would like to hear from anyone who was in the area and witnessed anything suspicious that could assist the investigation."
