Police discovered two unrestrained children - including a baby - when they stopped a car on the M62 in West Yorkshire today.
Officers stopped a silver Toyota Yaris near junction 27 - and were at a loss to understand what they found inside.
The Bradford-based traffic officer known on Twitter as Traffic Dave wrote: "Two adults, a six year old child and a six week old baby all in the rear - none had seatbelts on, the baby was being held by one of the adults!
"Some things I will never understand!"
Those reacting on social media were unimpressed by the incident.
One said: "Don't understand it myself. Its madness. I've been a front seat passenger in a head-on collision. In my hand I had a tiny mobile phone and couldn't even hold on to it in the collision. It ended up amongst the back seats. How can someone even consider holding a child safely?"
Another said: "Oh dear a disaster waiting to happen."
