Mr Shaw, 47, lived in Bradford and was a site manager. He was the husband of Lisa Shaw, who previously told the Telegraph & Argus: "It has been the worst week of my life. No-one can believe it - everyone is shocked. It's unfair, he was just full of life, everyone is devastated.

"He just tried to make me smile every day, he did everything for his family."

Assistant coroner for Dorset Brendan Allen adjourned the inquest until September 3. He requested statements from Mr Shaw’s family, his GP, police and the Health and Safety Executive.

As reported, police and ambulance were called to the JD Wetherspoon pub at around 1.30am on February 23.

An ambulance service spokesperson said: “We were called at 1.27am and attended with two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, a doctor and an operations officer.

“One patient was taken to hospital for further treatment.”

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “We can confirm that a male customer appears to have fallen down the stairs at the pub.

“The manager on duty tried to resuscitate him.

“We will assist the police in any way possible. We extend our sympathies to the family and friends of the man.”

Mr Shaw’s fall was the third to happen at the pub since last June.

Colin Hayes, 61 and of Vale Road, Bournemouth, suffered three bleeds to the brain after he fell in August 2019.

However, JD Wetherspoon said a council officer had visited and found no defects or legal issues with the stairs.
