A giant image of Greta Thunberg has been painted by Bradford artist Jamie Wardley to mark International Women’s Day.
The artwork takes up an entire school field in Hebden Bridge, after children chose the 17-year-old Swede as a woman who inspired them.
Jamie, who grew up in Woodside and attended Buttershaw School - now Buttershaw Business and Enterpirse College - runs Sand in Your Eye, a company creating awe-inspiring, memorable pictures and sculptures from sand and also ice.
Children from Hebden Royd Primary School chose to paint the 60m by 20m portrait of Greta to mark International Women’s Day on Sunday.
The image was painted in their school field by the children alongside award-winning artists from Sand In Your Eye.

Jamie lives in Hebden Bridge with his wife Claire and two daughters. His eldest daughter Florence attends the Hebden Royd Primary School.
“The children were asked who they would like to paint and they chose Greta. They all drew and painted things that inspire them for International Women’s Day within the letters and parents were also be involved,” he says. “They were all very excited about it.”
Evie, a year six pupil at the school said she and her classmates chose Greta because “she stands up for what she believes, she is a big inspiration to me and she is not afraid to take action even if people do not agree with her.”
Sand In Your Eye has worked on many high-profile projects across the country. In 2018 they were responsible for a large-scale portrait of a casualty from World War One which was drawn into the sand in many locations and washed away as the tide came in. Jamie worked on the project with filmmaker Danny Boyle.
