PROPOSED works in prevent flooding in the area were on display for the public to see yesterday.

New defence walls, embankments, tree planting and a large flood storage area in Calverley are among the plans that were revealed at the first of two drop in sessions at the George and Dragon Pub in Apperley Bridge yesterday.

The works are being done as part of a partnership between Leeds City Council, the Environment Agency and Bradford Council.

These works are “Step 2” of the plans to reduce flood risk - but have not been fully funded yet. Work will start when funding is secured, and it is hoped it will be completed by Winter 2022.

It will provide better protection for 1,048 homes and 474 businesses.

The total cost of the scheme will be £112 million.

The next drop in session will be held at the pub on Tuesday March 10 from 10am to 2pm.
