LATEST NEWS: FLOOD ALERT: Third alert as river levels expected to rise this evening

STORM JORGE has hit Bradford and if you live in these areas you need to "be prepared".

The Environment Agency has issued two flood alerts for the city.

They are in place for the Upper River Aire and Earby Beck and Glusburn Beck.

If the Upper River Aire bursts its banks, Keighley Road in Skipton could be engulfed in water once again, as it was during Storm Dennis (see picture).

The likes of Silsden, Gargrave, Steeton and even as far as Riddlesden and Crossflatts could be flooded.

The Environment Agency states: "River levels have fallen after Friday’s rainfall, however this morning’s persistent rain is expected to cause levels to rise again.

"Water remains in Skipton Washlands, Snaygill Ings, and Cononley Washlands, and flooding of low-lying roads and land in the area remains possible.

"Consequently this flood alert is still in force.

"We expect to see levels peak in the upper reaches of the catchment from around midday today.

"Further scattered showers are forecast for the rest of the day, with heavier rain into the evening and overnight.

"From around 5pm, this more persistent rain is likely to cause a second similar response along the Upper Aire, with a second peak currently expected in the late evening.

"Please plan driving routes to avoid low-lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded. Avoid contact with floodwater.

"We are closely monitoring the situation."

Meanwhile, the alert for Earby Beck and Glusburn Beck advises that water levels are not expected to rise to a point where property flooding would occur.

But, people in the area are still urged to remain wary.

The Environment Agency states: "River levels remain elevated as a result of rainfall yesterday and overnight, and are beginning to rise in response to some heavier showers over the course of this morning.

"Consequently, flooding of roads and low lying land is possible.

"A further band of rain is expected from around 5pm, and this more persistent rain is likely to cause a second river level response in the early evening.

"Based on the current forecasts we are not expecting the river to reach levels at which property flooding would be a concern.

"We are closely monitoring the situation and our incident room remains open.

"Please plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded and avoid contact with flood water."

There was also an earlier alert for Wyke Beck, Meanwood Beck and Wortley Beck catchments.

This could have seen small parts of Pudsey and Tong flooded.

But, the alert has since been removed.
