A PEDESTRIAN has died after a collision with a large goods vehicle in Heckmondwike.

The 69-year-old woman, named locally as Jean Hepworth, of Liversedge, was "well known" around Heckmondwike, according to fond tributes left on social media tonight.

Police were called to the crash on Westgate, near Market Street, at 11.06am today.

The Major Collison and Enquiry Team (MCET) would like to speak to anyone who saw the collision.

It occurred after a DAF large goods vehicle collided with a pedestrian who was crossing the road.

The HGV had been turning right from Westgate onto Market Street when it was in collision with the woman.

Emergency services attended but the woman was pronounced to have died at the scene.

Sergeant Martyn Burns of the Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: “We are continuing to investigate this very serious collision which has sadly resulted in the death of the pedestrian involved.

“We would very much like to speak to anyone who saw or has dashcam footage of the collision or the lorry in the moments before it occurred.
