WEST YORKSHIRE has the second-highest number of uninsured drivers in England and Wales, new research suggests.
Data from the Ministry of Justice says that, over the last decade, there has been an average of 33 prosecutions for driving without insurance per 1,000 people in West Yorkshire.
It also found that the average rate of prosecution for driving without insurance across the country is 11 per 1,000 people, with West Yorkshire’s rate 62 per cent higher.
Lancashire is the only region more frequently committing this offence, where there have been 36 uninsured driving prosecutions per 1,000 people.
West Yorkshire was also revealed to be the second-highest offender when it came to overall motoring crime prosecutions, which also includes drink driving and speeding, amongst other offences.
