A BRADFORD businessman turned film-maker is releasing a new film into cinemas and streaming services.

Abdul Hafiz, who ran Bradford company Brand X, has produced and co-written the film, called RAAGNI, which he describes as a "beautiful story of how love and music can change lives".

Filmed in London, RAAGNI is the story of a talented musician at a top music school who falls in love with a beautiful woman with a tragic past.

Mr Hafiz’s previous film, Ek Chotsi Love Story, was released in India to critical and box office success.

“Ek Chotsi Love Story really did the business upon its release and my instinct tells me that RAAGNI will follow suit,” he said. "While RAAGNI has a smaller budget, I think it's more intimate."

Mr Hafiz, whose father, Mohammed Salim worked as a market trader in Halifax's historic Piece Hall, is proud of his Bradford roots.

“I spent many years working in and around Bradford and I have many friends in this city. I have a deep affinity with the place and this is reflected in my work as an artist," he said.

“As a child I used to help my dad in the Piece Hall and I would often dream about making a feature film. Anyone can achieve their dreams. My father came to the UK in 1958 and he dreamed about finding a better life for his children. I’m grateful that I have been able to do just that."

He added: “The songs in the film are beautiful and will soften even the hardest heart."

Mr Hafiz is also a singer and performer, with several popular records under his belt.

He is often described as multi-talented. “I always laugh when I hear people say that. I wouldn’t describe myself in those terms," he said. "I would say I’m passionate about many things. I like to remain quiet and unassuming, and bring love into the world”.

* RAAGNI Opens in cinemas around the UK in March.
