A CLEANING products manufacturer has had a positive start to the year – with plans that should deliver a double-digit growth for the third consecutive year.

Astonish, whose manufacturing facility is clearly visible from the M606 in Bradford, has launched its first ever multi-million-pound TV advertising campaign, which will run through to the end of March.

Meanwhile, the company’s best-selling product, the Astonish Oven & Grill Specialist Cleaner & Sponge, has been named Household Cleaning Product of the Year 2020.

Producing about 150,000 products every day, the company reported a turnover of £22m to the year end May 31, 2019. With performance showing an increase of 16 per cent year-on-year, and with a further quarter to report, its target is set to increase to £26m to the year-end May 31, 2020.

Managing Director, Howard Moss, said: “The timings couldn’t have been better. Securing the Product of the Year award at the same time as our first ever multi-million-pound TV advert is live gets our message across loud and clear; we provide market leading products for shoppers.

“When my father launched the business more than 40 years ago, he set the values that we are still following today; develop quality products that are best in class, non-harmful or toxic, cruelty free, vegan and offer real value for money.

“Put simply, we have an affordable range that delivers results. Listening to consumers has always been a priority and this is what influences our range. Shoppers come to us with a problem and we develop a solution.

“Investment into our brand and business has had an incredible impact in recent years and with the plans we have, we know that 2020 is going to be another successful year. We won’t apologise for our achievements, we want our customers, suppliers and staff to come on the journey with us.”

The culture at Astonish, which is a second-generation family-run business, is one that benefits from a flat organisational structure. Many of the colleagues from the company have worked for the business for years.

Astonish has never made a single redundancy, with employees benefitting from fresh fruit Tuesday and a company-wide get together on the last Friday of every month.

Howard said: “The fact that we have never had to make one redundancy tells me two things; we are employing the right people for the job and we are also making sure that we are adding new colleagues to the business that can have a job for life. It’s about stability, security, reward and also not taking ourselves too seriously.

“What we offer our customers, which I feel sets us apart from other companies in the industry, is quality products, great value and an interesting story that injects some personality. Add to that an ongoing commitment to invest in our brand and our range and we have a winning formula.”
