A BRADFORD filmmaker has set his third short film on Baildon Moor close to his home.

Adam Mawson hopes to make ‘The Moor’ his year, building on the success of earlier films he has made locally.

The horror short begins with a van driven on to the moor by a people intent on fly-tipping rubbish in the dead of night, when no-one is around. But what they don’t know is that something is lurking on the bleak heather-clad upland.

“They are brutally attacked by some kind of monster - that is how the film starts,” says Adam, who makes his suspenseful films with no budget.

He has written the script and believes Baildon Moor is the ideal location. “The wild moorland has just the right atmosphere.”

Adam, 43, is thrilled with the success of his first film Abduction which focuses on the disappearance of six children from the village under mysterious circumstances.

“The reviews it has been getting are amazing,” he says. The film is currently scoring a nine star rating on IMDb, the online database of information related to films and other sources of entertainment.

Abduction stars Danny Cunningham, who appeared in the TV series Soldier Soldier and played Shaun Ryder in the film 24-hour Party People. It is due to be released on Amazon Prime Video, where another film by Adam, the paranormal thriller ’13’ is already available.

Also filmed in Baildon,‘13’ is based on actual paranormal events that took place in 1991 in a house in Bradford. “What people witnessed and recorded was truly terrifying and is known as one of the most authentic paranormal evidence ever caught on camera, today known as the Barmby Place Ghost,” explains Adam. “These events continued until 1997, when the activity suddenly stopped.”

The film ‘13’ fast-forwards 22 years to continue the tale. Adam’s son Harvey, coincidentally aged 13, stars in the film and may have a part in The Moor.Harvey, who loves acting, also starred in Abduction as did his wife Lindsay.

Self-taught, Adam’s interest in making films began when he was young. In the summer holidays he used to make short films with his dad’s video camera. and learned special effects on his computer. He then became a TV and film extra to learn more about the industry. Away from the camera Adam runs a personalised gifts company, Artylicious, with Lindsay.

Both Abduction and 13 may be screened at a drive-thru cinema, Burger51 - so called after Area 51, the military base in the Nevada desert associated with aliens - in Las Vegas, which specialises in screening Sci-Fi short films. “I had an email from them, saying they are really interested, which is great,” says Adam.

He has also received positive feedback for his work from the actor Spencer Wilding whose roles include Luca Brasi in Men in Black and Darth Vader in Rogue 1.

“He saw the poster for The Moor and liked it, and he watched Abduction and 13 and messaged me to say he was impressed, which was amazing,” says Adam.
