A WARNING has been issued for motorists after fire crews rescued a driver who became stuck in floodwater.

Engines from Carlisle's East and West stations were alerted at about 4pm on Monday to the stranded car at Low Crosby.

A spokesman from Carlisle East said: "The driver told us she had been following her sat nav and ended up stuck in the flood water.

"A total of four water rescue technicians helped remove the woman from her vehicle and get her to safety.

"While the road was signposted as closed, we would like to warn motorists to heed the closures and don't ignore them. Please also plan ahead before setting off, and have an alternative route in mind.

"We'd also advise them to listen to local radio for the latest travel information."
