A quartet of Skipton-based Amber Homeloans Limited employees took on the Great Wall of China for charity.

Sarah Brewer and Laura Tudgey, both from Skipton, and Gail Lloyd, of Keighley, and Carla Weatherall, from Riddlesden, had planned the expedition for a year before finally embarking on the mission last month.

They had a goal of raising at least £2,500 for their causes - Cancer Research UK selected by Sarah, The Alzheimer's Society chosen by Gail, Diabetes UK supported by Laura and Carla's choice, the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Each day the team trekked for six to eight hours along the stony path at the top of the Great Wall, which twists and winds its way along the mountains, interspersed with crumbling watchtowers.

The result of fundraising efforts exceeded expectations, with the total amount raised for the charities standing well in excess of £14,000 to date.
