A 67-year-old man has been jailed for eight years for sexually abusing a girl.
Edward Gallagher, of Rowland Street, Skipton, pleaded guilty at Bradford Crown Court on October 15 to three charges of attempted rape, five of indecent assault and one of indecency with a child.
The case was adjourned until today for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.
Gallagher's barrister Sophie Drake said he felt deep remorse for what he had done. He was of good character and worked in his local community to help the vulnerable and needy.
Judge Peter Benson made Gallagher the subject of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order for the rest of his life. He branded him a committed paedophile and said the offences were dreadful.
Gallagher will be on extended licence when he is released and he must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
