THE Friends of Ashwell Allotments are holding a general meeting, open to the public, to discuss ways to prevent what they fear could be the destruction of the recently purchased site.
Ten allotment holders were given notice to quit last year after the land, adjacent to St Barnabas Church, in Ashwell Road, Heaton, was sold by the Parochial Church Council of Girlington, Heaton and Manningham to Saeed Mahmood.
Since then, the allotment tenants formed a Friends of Ashwell Road Allotments group and successfully persuaded Bradford Council to list the site as an Asset of Community Value.
The Friends group is meeting on Monday, February 17, at St Barnabas Village Hall, to discuss how they can further protect the site and keep it a green asset for the community.
The meeting starts at 7.30pm.
