PEOPLE have until tomorrow to have their say on what should be Bradford's "shared values."

Bradford District's Stronger Communities Partnership Board is developing a set of statements about the values that unite everyone who live and work in the District.

Bradford is asking for the views of residents and anyone with a connection to the city and district on the shared values. The online survey closes on Friday.

In 2018 the Council published Stronger Communities Together 2018-2023, a five-year strategy for Bradford District. The strategy recognised the need for a society based on shared values and responsibilities.

The Stronger Communities Partnership Board brings together voluntary, private and faith sectors, and local people who live in our district. They have been working to define the shared values of the people of Bradford, finding out what is important to people and the things we stand for that bring us together.

Conversations started a year ago and have continued all through 2019. There have been events in various places across the district including shopping centres, colleges and the University. The words that people use to describe what is important to them have all been recorded.

Time and again the same words kept coming up: caring, understanding, kindness, people, safety, community, supporting, helping, respecting.

Bishop heads project to tackle integration in Bradford

From analysing all the words, a set of values have been drafted. The partnership is now asking people what they think through an online survey.

This will help to finalise the set that will be used in the future.

The Bishop of Bradford, Right Revd Toby Howarth, Chair of the Stronger Communities Partnership Board, said: "We invite everyone who cares about our city to help work with us to develop a set of values we can share and use within and beyond our district’s boundaries.”

Councillor Abdul Jabar, Bradford Council's Executive Member for Neighbourhoods and Community Safety, said: “Our community has so much in common and so much to offer to each other. We think these values will help to bring us together and guide all of our work. We want to hear from everyone who has an interest in Bradford District, whether they live here, work here, visit or have other connections. We have had a great response so far and encourage anyone to use these next couple of days to have their say."

The values and the survey about them can be found here.

The values will form an important part of Bradford For Everyone - a new initiative to bring together all of the activities that will take forward our pledge for a district that is for everyone.
