The inquest opening, held at Bradford Coroners' Court, heard he was due to go to work that day, but did not turn up.
The alarm was raised with police and the inquest heard that earlier that morning, a train driver struck a young male who had run out on the track.
The teenager, a former pupil at South Craven School, was identified by the British Transport Police by a fingerprint system.
Investigations are continuing, but the brief hearing heard there are no suspicious circumstances.
