50 years ago, art students from Bradford university created the first ever Bradford festival with a difference. The timing was perfect as enthusiasm for street theatre or Underground entertainment was becoming very popular.
The idea lives on today in the juggling and magic acts which still pop up during Bradford's festival weekend. The thought of those first ever festivals having anything quite as awe-inspiring as the Mela probably never crossed anybody’s mind.
