A CALL for the public to let Bradford Council know how fireworks are blighting their lives has had a huge response.

Last month the Council announced it would be carrying out a scrutiny review of firework use in the district, following numerous calls to clamp down on anti-social firework use.

As part of the review the Council encouraged residents to come forward and voice any issues or concerns they may have regarding anti-social behaviour involving fireworks.

A story in the Telegraph & Argus led to numerous people contacting Council officers, the committee that will carry out the review was told.

Public asked for say on fireworks by Bradford Council

At a meeting of the Corporate Scrutiny Committee on Thursday evening, Mustansir Butt, Overview and Scrutiny Lead, said: "We had some great feedback, It will all be very useful for the review. Every day when I check my messages I've got numerous responses from people on the issue, and more are still coming in."

The Council says the key lines of enquiry for the scrutiny review would be:

• review the licensing requirements and other regulations around fireworks

• explore improved prevention and enforcement activities

• consider the sale and distribution of fireworks across Bradford

• examine the use of fireworks around Bonfire Night and at religious and family occasions

• scrutinise the inappropriate use of fireworks, including the impact upon residents, pets and other animals

• analyse the impact of the use of fireworks upon noise, air pollution, cleansing and emergency planning.

People have until the end of March to contact the Council about their experiences.

All responses should be sent to Mustansir Butt, Overview and Scrutiny Lead, via email on mustansir.butt@bradford.gov.uk or by post to room 112, 1st floor, City Hall, by Tuesday March 31.
