Bursting on to the media scene February 1981, was Bradford and District Newspapers newest edition, the Bradford Star. Unlike the Telegraph & Argus, printed to broadsheet, the Bradford Star was a tabloid delivered direct to homes every Thursday.

Unable to compete with the Telegraph & Argus with its up-to-the-minute news, the Bradford Star was more of a magazine format with human interest stories.

According to the Bradford Star’s editor, Rob Mason, the general idea was to produce a bright and entertaining paper that people would want to read.

To help celebrate its 1,000th edition on November 23, 2000, many of Bradford’s high- profile citizens including the Lord Mayor Stanley King thanked The Star’s readers and advertisers for making it such a success.
