A MAJOR road is still closed after it collapsed due to a burst water main.

Hollingwood Lane, in Great Horton, is shut both ways, due to the issue.

The closure began at around 7.36am.

A police officer said this morning that there is no access up the road and from the retail park, near Clayton Road.

A video sent in by a member of the public showed water spewing from the collapsed road (below)

AA's traffic news also confirmed that a closure is in place.

It runs on Hollingwood Lane between Clayton Road and Chelsea Road - opposite the retail park.

There was heavy traffic on approach to the closure during rush-hour this morning and it is now building again as the evening commute begins, according to a witness.

A spokesperson for Yorkshire Water said: "We attended a burst on Hollingwood Lane this morning which has caused significant damage to the road.

"For health and safety reasons the road will have to remain closed for today, while we work quickly as possible to get it fixed."

One witness passed by the burst water main at around 6am this morning.

He said water was flowing out of the road at a "good rate".
