A MAN who had an adapted CS gas canister in a bedroom drawer at his Bradford home has been given a community sentence by Skipton Magistrates.

Police carried out a search of Amir Mohammed’s home on October 17, 2018, after the car he was travelling in was stopped in Skipton on other, not proceeded with matters, the court heard.

The search of his home in Bradford uncovered in a bedroom drawer a weapon designed or adapted for the discharge of CS gas.

Mohammed, 22, admitted having the weapon in his possession.

The court heard that he had been given it, along with other items for safe keeping, some years earlier and had not known what it was.

The court was told in mitigation that Mohammed was training to be a motor mechanic and that the cannister had been amongst several items that he had been asked to look after several years ago.

He had put them in his room and thought nothing more about them, the court heard.

Magistrates gave Mohammed, of Devonshire Terrace, off St Mary's Road, Manningham, Bradford, a 12 month community order with 60 hours unpaid work.

He will also have to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £90.
