WARNOCK, McCall, Jones or another? Who are the names in the frame to replace Gary Bowyer as Bradford City manager.

City fans had been calling for Bowyer to be sacked for the last few weeks, but had differing views on his replacement.

COMMENT: Where it went wrong for Bowyer

Here are five possible names in the frame for the Bantams hot seat.

STUART MCCALL

A fourth return in charge for this club legend would certainly reunite the fans after a pretty difficult few weeks on the pitch.

Harshly sacked in many people's eyes in January 2018 after guiding his side to the League One play-off final just months before, the former skipper might see City as unfinished business.

He is also familiar with new City striker Lee Novak, who played under him at Scunthorpe United.

Out of work after being sacked by Scunthorpe last year, the 55-year-old would obviously not cost any money in compensation.

While still a player, McCall had a brief caretaker spell in charge at City in 2000, before taking over in permanent posts at the club between 2007 and 2010 and then 2016 to 2018.

NEIL WARNOCK

Some Bantams supporters have called for the former Leeds United and Sheffield United manager to take charge at Valley Parade.

The veteran boss has been out of work since leaving Championship side Cardiff City last year and has since expressed an interest at donning a tracksuit on the touchline again.

Could he be persuaded to wear claret and amber colours? But he may prove too expensive due to his recent spell in the Premier League with the South Wales outfit.

NATHAN JONES

The 46-year-old worked wonders at Luton Town, guiding them to promotion from League Two in 2018. He steered the Hatters to top of League One the following year until leaving in January 2019 to go to Championship side Stoke City.

Things didn't work out as well for him in the Potteries, as he was sacked on November 1 last year.

MICHAEL FLYNN

Similar to McCall, Flynn's appointment at City would be welcomed by fans due to his playing links. The Newport-born midfielder scored 10 goals in 91 appearances for City between 2009 and 2012 and is still thought of in high regard at the club. He returned to Valley Parade with his current club Newport County late last year.

In October 2019, Flynn signed a new contract with Newport until June 2022.

PAUL HURST

He is a free agent after being sacked by fellow League Two side Scunthorpe United on January 29 after eight months in charge.

He enjoyed a successful spell in sole charge at Grimsby Town between 2013 and 2016, after previously holding the job jointly with Rob Scott.

He went on to manage Shrewsbury Town in League One until moving to Ipswich Town where, after just under five months, he was sacked in October 2018 for the shortest reign of any manager in the club's history.

In the summer of 2008, Hurst graduated from Staffordshire University with a degree in Professional Sports Writing and Broadcasting.
