A DRINK driver from Bingley was arrested after police received a tip off from a member of the public, heard magistrates.

Bar worker, Gregory Kean, 41, had driven to buy a sandwich for his lunch after drinking a pint of beer on November 13, heard Skipton Magistrates Court.

Police, responding to a call from someone who suspected he had been drinking, found Kean parked up in his Ford Fiesta in Chapel Hill, Skipton.

Kean admitted to police he had been driving and that his car was not insured, the court heard.

He was arrested and taken to the police station where he provided a blood sample that revealed he had 107 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, the legal limit is 80.

Kean, who admitted drink driving, and driving without insurance, had lost his job as a result of being arrested, and was currently out of work, the court was told.

In mitigation, Keith Blackwell said Kean had been at work, and had had a pint of beer after changing the pumps before driving off to buy some lunch. It appeared that it was while he was buying a sandwich that alcohol had been smelt on his breath and the police had been called, said Mr Blackwell.

He had not believed he was over the limit and his car had not been insured because he hadn't the money at the time, added Mr Blackwell.

Kean, of Lees Moor Road, Bingley, was banned from driving for 12 months and fined £200. He will also have to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £32. If he completes a drink drivers rehabilitation course, his ban will be reduced by 13 weeks.
