WORK to build a fish pass on the River Aire is due to start next month.

The pass will be built in Saltaire, in Robert’s Park, and later this week residents of the village have been invited to look at the plans.

As part of it’s Developing the Natural Aire project The Environment Agency will construct a fish pass that, together with three more in Leeds, will reconnect 60km of our river’s habitat to allow the return of Atlantic salmon to once again breed in our river.

Lampreys and eels could return to River Aire in Saltaire if new plans are approved

The plans will be on display at the Lodge in Robert’s Park on Thursday between 6 and 7 pm. This will be an informal drop in session with representatives from The Environment Agency and The Aire Rivers Trust.

They say disruption to residents will be kept to a minimum.
