Businesses seeking to reduce their carbon footprint will be able to get expert advice at a major environmental event being held next month.

Bradford Chamber is hosting the day-long event, organised by the Better Business Environment Forum (BBEF).

Delegates will be given first hand advice on environmental issues from chartered environmentalist by John MacNamara, of Aspects International.

Mr MacNamara has more than 15 years practical environmental management experience.

He will be joined by Rob Lawson, corporate responsibility manager at Bradford-based Provident Financial, who will be providing an intriguing in-depth case study of how the company is already successfully measuring its carbon footprint.

Mr MacNamara said: "Climate change has been identified as one of the greatest global challenges facing mankind.

"Human and natural systems could be affected leading to major changes in the use of resources. It could even affect economic stability.

"As part of a wide range of initiatives our course can help organisations to measure, manage and minimise their environmental impact and achieve tangible benefits such as significant cost savings and the generation of good publicity.

"Determining the carbon footprint of your operations or products can enable you to promote your green credentials and develop ways to switch to less carbon intensive methodologies."

The training course has been organised so that companies large and small can learn techniques to monitor, measure and minimise their carbon footprints and improve their environmental performance.

Part of the day's structure will involve introducing the concept of carbon foot-printing by discussing the methods of calculating and monitoring the carbon dioxide emissions.

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to produce an Action Plan for reducing these emissions.

The training will include:

  • information on the range of direct and indirect sources of carbon dioxide emissions
  • the provision of a methodology that can be applied to the assessment of the carbon footprint
  • advice on how to establish targets for the reduction of carbon emissions from an organisation The event is set to take place on Thursday, December 13, from 9am and will be staged at the Bradford Chamber HQ at Devere House on Vicar Lane, Little Germany.
