FOLLOWING objections to the common land application by Cumbria County Council (CCC) to construct the new Gooseholme footbridge in Kendal, CCC have confirmed that replacement of the bridge will be delayed until at least 2021.
Both New Road and Gooseholme are registered common land and as such any construction work needs to authorised by the Secretary of State through the Planning Inspectorate.
The application was submitted following the Public Engagement period in August 2019 but CCC said that due to the “unexpected objections received and the disappointing availability of planning inspectors,” a site visit by the Inspectorate will only take place in August 2020.
CCC said it was still committed to delivering the bridge and will do so upon the completion of all statutory duties.
