THE UNIVERSITY of Bradford is leading a project where a teaching method is being used in UK secondary schools for the first time.

The University was the first in the UK to use 'Team-Based Learning' (TBL), and will now work with partners in Spain, the Netherlands and Ireland to train teachers to apply it in classrooms.

TBL sees students study materials in advance, before being tested on them in class, individually and then in teams.

Lead researcher, Dr. Simon Tweddell, said: "We've found students enjoy TBL more than standard lectures and get more out of the classes. The tests motivate them to do preparation work meaning our time in the classroom is spent helping them to learn how to use and apply this knowledge.

"TBL has helped improve outcomes on our pharmacy programmes and we hope to see the same impact in these schools."
