Time is running out for people to attend a local celebration of the scouts' centenary.

The Aire Valley District reunion of past members and leaders will be at Baildon Cricket and Rugby Club at Jenny Lane on Friday, November 30 (7.30pm), and anyone wishing to go should contact the district secretary on 01274 617849 as numbers could be limited.

The Aire Valley area can trace scout groups back almost 100 years.

Shipley was then part of Bradford, Baildon was a small village and Bingley had a completely separate identity.

As the years went by, Shipley and Baildon districts joined together and, some three years ago, they in turn amalgamated with Bingley.

The district badge depicts the throstle of Bingley, the moors of Baildon and the fields of Shipley, along with a sheep and plover finished off with a blue line representing the river Aire.

Many boys and adults have participated in scouting life in this district and it is hoped that this social gathering of current leaders might attract people who may wish to become leaders.
