A murder accused thought his mate would “wake up in a bit” while he was lying naked and bleeding on the floor, a jury heard today.

Raheel Khan told the police he believed Mohammed Feazan Ayaz had passed out because he was drunk.

Khan, 27, of no fixed address, said he was still talking to Mr Ayaz, known as Fizzy, after he was wrapped in a curtain and dragged to a vehicle.

Khan told detectives he thought Fizzy was “just faking it.”

He denies murdering Mr Ayaz, 20, of Duckworth Grove, Manningham, Bradford, but admits manslaughter.

Khan said he filmed himself attacking Fizzy in Unit 2 at the Denholme Business Centre to humiliate him because he was threatening to release “pornographic videos” on a phone he had given him.

He lost his temper because Fizzy was drunk and aggressive and said he would “let those videos out.”

Khan told the West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team: “I didn’t kill him.”

Bradford Crown Court has heard that Mr Ayaz’s naked body was dumped in Saffron Drive, Allerton, Bradford, on July 1 last year.

The prosecution alleges he was “systematically and sadistically beaten to death” while his torment was filmed on Khan’s phone.

Khan said he had known Fizzy for two years. They had lived together and were close friends.

“I’d even call him my brother,” he said.

They had been chilling with other lads in Unit 2, which Khan said was his “safe house” while he was on the run from the police.

He and other men were at the unit on the night of June 30 when Fizzy was “aggressive, drunk and kicking off.”

“He was pissed and trying to pick a fight,” Khan said.

Another guy punched him on the jaw and Khan said he picked Fizzy up, poured water on his face and told the lad he shouldn’t have hit him.

Khan said he didn’t want any drama at the unit because he would not be able to live there anymore.

“The unit wasn’t safe anymore because of what he was doing,” he said.

A taxi was called for Fizzy but he came back saying: “Watch what I do for you. I’m going to let those videos out.”

Khan said the sex videos were on a phone he had given to Fizzy and he said he had got rid of them.

They were films of Khan having consensual sex with a couple of girls.

“It wasn’t a big deal for me, but it was for the girls,” he said.

He hit Fizzy to gain control of him, took off his clothes, kicked him in the balls and put him in a sleeper hold.

Khan said he sent a couple of videos of him kicking Fizzy on Snapchat.

He punched him, jabbed and slapped him and put his face in his urine with his foot.

Khan said he did not see Fizzy being assaulted with a bottle but: “Somebody did put a bottle in his arse.”

Fizzy was dragged out of the building in a curtain, driven to Saffron Drive and left outside a mutual friend’s house.

Khan said Fizzy was asleep when they left him at the roadside.

He thought he was “faking it” because he was snoring, and he made a sound when he came into contact with the road.

“I couldn’t see any injury on him; just a little bit of swelling to his face,” Khan said.

He told detectives: “I can’t believe he’s dead, to be honest. I thought he would sober up and be all right.”

He added: “In my heart or hearts, I did everything I could for the guy.”

Also on trial denying Mr Ayaz’s murder are: Suleman Khan, 20, of Sandford Road, Bradford Moor, Bradford; Robert Wainwright, 26, of Mannville Terrace, Bradford City Centre; Junaid Hussain, 28, of Silverhill Road, Bradford Moor; and Stephen Queeney, 34, of Junction Row, Bolton Road, Bradford.

Shaoib Shafiq, 20, of Gladstone Street, Bradford Moor, and a 17-year-old Bradford youth, who cannot be named because of his age, plead not guilty to assisting an offender.

The trial continues.
