PLANS to build 700 homes at a quarry have finally been signed off, 20 months after they were first approved.

The Bolton Woods Quarry development was given the go ahead by Bradford Council’s Regulatory and Appeals Committee in May 2018, despite numerous objections, including one from Shipley MP Philip Davies.

But the plans were only officially approved last week, with the Council saying the delay was due to the time it took to iron out numerous legal technicalities needed before the project could officially be signed off.

The approved plans come with 31 conditions, ranging from landscape management schemes to limits on construction hours.

The quarry is still operational, and will be for the immediate future. The housing development will be built when the quarrying work is completed.

Submitted by Berry And Marshall (Bolton Woods) Ltd, the plans would go alongside proposals to re-develop that area of the Canal Road Corridor as the Bolton Woods “Urban Village.”

A Costa has already opened as part of the development, with an Aldi due to open this year.

A Council spokesperson, said: “We welcome the approval of these plans which will bring significant housing and regeneration benefits to the area and district.

“There was a delay in publishing the approval due to the time required to iron out some legal technicalities.”
