LAST week saw me and my plants out of the shop and helping to breathe new life into some of our public spaces.

Houseplants seem to be capturing the imagination of not only our homes but our cafes, offices and as an alternative to wedding flowers.

My first stop has been the gorgeous Cartwright Hall, in Manningham

I feel so guilty to admit that I’ve not been to Cartwright since I was a child and it would seem I’ve been missing out.

The gardens are a delight and so is the cafe and that’s where our houseplants have ended up.

Jill, who is excited to breathe new life into the cafe, told me she was so inspired by the benefits of houseplants that she was keen to introduce them to the cafe in the hope that people would find it a more homely experience.

The finished result looks amazing.

The cafe now has houseplants framing its big elegant windows and glass bottles hold cuttings of plants that are set to be propagated.

The grand relaunch of the cafe was last Thursday, serving a selection of food and drinks with the added bonus of it being dog-friendly.

Jill is hoping to extend this further by holding workshops and other events.

So if, like me, it’s been a while since you visited Cartwright Hall, why not make a trip to see this delightful piece history we have on our doorstep?

Until next time, planters.

Plant One On Me is at 11 Upper Millergate, Bradford BD1 1SX, part of the Sunbridge Wells complex.
