A HOUSEHOLDER has been given a community order after being caught allowing 27 cannabis plants to be grown in her home.

Joanne Clough, 46, of Western Close, Buttershaw, was to receive £3,000, Bradford Crown Court heard.

But when her home was raided by two men in balaclavas armed with a metal pole last October 13, she barricaded herself in and called the police.

When officers arrived they smelt cannabis and found the plants and growing equipment upstairs in a converted room.

The court heard that Clough, who suffers from numerous illnesses, was in debt and agreed to let her house be used for payment.

She pleaded guilty to producing 27 cannabis plants and Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC sentenced her to a nine-month community order with 25 rehabilitation days.

He said: "You're a vulnerable lady. I'm not surprised the evil monsters who prey on the public spotted you as someone to use to grow their 27 plants.

"And I'm not surprised in their dirty little world that word went out and masked men targeted you to steal the plants."
